"Bi-Weekly" what?

Will someone explain how this is? The definition just makes no sense.

From the American Heritage Dictionary:

bi.week.ly (bī-wēk'lē) adj.

1. Happening every two weeks.
2. Happening twice a week; semiweekly.

I HATE that!!! how are you supposed to know which one they mean!?!?!?! ARGHHHHH!!!

semi-weekly IS NOT the same as bi-weekly!!!!!!!!!

I know! I just learned that does not mean twice a week a couple of years ago, or bi-anything for that matter. Every other? so confusing I agree.
